About Summer Sounds 2020

‘Summer Sounds 2020’ is the fourth installment in the ‘Summer Sounds’ series.

Similar in spirit to volumes 1-3, ‘Summer Sounds’ is a short collection of electronic pop music to celebrate the summer.

Unlike the previous three editions in this series, all of the tracks on ‘Summer Sounds 2020’ were not composed, recorded, and released within a 48 hour period. These songs were written at various points throughout the past six months (although the majority of ‘Summer Sounds 2020’ was composed and recorded in the past two months). While all tracks feature material that was previously unreleased, “Summer Sounds Overture” (track 1) also contains samples from tracks on all three previous ‘Summer Sounds’ EPs. ‘Summer Sounds 2020’ is also the first release in this series to include vocals and lyrics.

  • “Summer Sounds Overture” – “Summer Sounds Overture” is a collage of excerpts from previous ‘Summer Sounds’ EPs combined with new and previously unreleased material.
The excerpts featured in “Summer Sounds Overture” are:

    • “Diet Cherry Vanilla” from Summer Sounds 3
    • “The Sound Of Summer” from Summer Sounds
    • “Beach” from Summer Sounds
    • “Station To Station” from Summer Sounds II
  • “Out Of The Blue” – “Out Of The Blue” was written first as an instrumental track inspired by the music of Jeff Lynne and Electric Light Orchestra (specifically the ‘Balance Of Power’ album).
When I was re-visiting “Out Of The Blue” as a possible addition to ‘Summer Sounds 2020,’ I was inspired by the SpaceX/NASA launch on May 30th and decided to make this song about the event.

To float among the stars
To tell us who we are

To go beyond what’s known
Are we out here all alone?
And it’s a long way from home
But we’re about to go…

(Out of the blue) I think we’re going
(Out of the blue) I think we’re gonna go
(Out of the blue) I really wanna go
Out of the blue

Smoke showers from the blaze
Thundering towards space
Rocket through the sky they go
(Our) blue planet down below

To go beyond what’s known
Are we out here all alone?
And it’s a long way from home
And we’re about to go…

(Out of the blue) And now we’re going
(Out of the blue) And now we’re gonna go
(Out of the blue) I really wanna go
Out of the blue

And it’s a long way from home
To go beyond what’s known

(Out of the blue) And now we’re going
(Out of the blue) And now we’re gonna go
(Out of the blue) I really wanna go
Out of the blue

  • “Dancing In The Rain” – “Dancing In The Rain” was inspired by the music of Jeff Lynne and Electric Light Orchestra (specifically the ‘El Dorado’ and ‘Out Of The Blue’ albums).

Cover up the sky
With clouds of grey
Phantoms of night in the day

Bring back the smile
Misty in the haze
I want to be here with you

As the rain falls down
Running down your face
As the rain falls down
(and) We move with grace

Dancing In The Rain

Say goodbye to stars
Faintly overhead
(the) Light of the moon still shines through

As we float away
No, I won’t forget
Out in the rain here with you

As the rain falls down
Running down your face
As the rain falls down
(and) We move with grace

Dancing In The Rain

  • “Good Times” – Good Times. All Day. Love In The Summer.
  • “4th Of July” – “4th Of July” was inspired by the music of Hall & Oates (specifically the ‘Big Bam Boom’ album), the music of Lionel Richie (specifically the “All Night Long (All Night) [Instrumental]” single) and the music of Phil Collins.

Links to streaming services will be updated as this album is added into stores.
